  • Students will complete two graphic organizer for the central idea, supporting details, and summary for the first two pages of section one, chapter five.
  • We will complete the pages collectively as a class after we read the two sections.
  • Then, students will learn more about the first civilization in India.
  • Students will go through a powerpoint and answer questions aloud as they learn information.

Classwork, Monday, November 10, 2014:
  • Students will read pages 127-128 in their social studies textbooks.
  • Students will complete three graphic organizers finding the central idea, supporting details, and summary for the three headings on those pages.
  • The first heading we will read collectively as a class and complete the first graphic organizer together.
  • For the second two headings, students will be put into partner groups, and complete both the graphic organizers.
  • Once students are done they will be groups with another partner group to compare and contrast their answers.
Homework Due Thursday, November 13, 2014:  Read pages 133-135 in your social studies textbooks. Complete the reading checks.
Classwork, Wednesday, November 12, 2014:
  • Students will finish their graphic organizers for page 128-129 in their textbooks.
  • Students then will individually complete central idea, supporting details, and summary graphic organizer for pages 130-132 in their textbooks.
  • Students will then discuss their findings for pages 130-132, using their graphic organizer to help facilitate discussion.
Homework Due Friday, November 14, 2014:  Read pages 140-141 in your social studies textbooks and complete two inference graphic organizers.
Classwork, Thursday, November 13, 2014:
  • Students will be reading about the origins of Buddhism.
  • Students will learn how to infer. 
  • Students will be using an inference graphic organizer as they read pages 136-139 in their textbooks.
  • Students will have to fill out the inference graphic organizer as they read.
  • we will read the text and fill out the graphic organizers collectively as a class.

  • This could be a PowerPoint, a tri-orama, or a poster.
  • Up to 100 points may be awarded. Points will be awarded based on effort.

·      Using your textbook or dictionary as a resource, look up the definitions of each of the vocabulary words. You will have 6 definitions. Please WRITE THEM IN YOUR SS NOTEBOOK.
·      Write a sentence PERTAINING TO SOCIAL STUDIES for each of the words on the list.  You will have 6 sentences. Please write these on loose-leaf paper.
·      This assignment is for a grade.  You will get one extra bonus point for each sophisticated word that you utilize in your sentences.  You will lose one point for each spelling or grammar mistake in each sentence.  You will lose five points for each social studies vocabulary word that is not used properly or that is not used in a sentence pertaining to social studies.
