I am reading Remembering Blue by Lois Lowry. It is part of The Giver series. It is a fantastic book that takes place in the future. This book is very sad. I highly recommend it.

Thisn summer i didn't know what to write about but then, it came to me. I wrote a report about stundets graduating from Yale Unaversity. It was verry tricky to write because I had no clue what they did but then it downed on me. I was watching the Gilmore girls and rorie the main character went to Yale. So I but it together and got a wounderful and inspirering piece. :)

I am finally getting time to write about the books that I have been reading this summer. The first few weeks of the summer I was so busy that I didn't have much time for reading. I don't ever feel that I am on vacation until there is time to just sit with my books or with a journal and pen. I am happiest when I am with my family, in my garden, or reading and writing. So far the summer has been perfect since I have been able to do all those things. We went away for the weekend to go White Water Rafting outside of Syracuse. When we weren't in the river I was reading one of my favorite books. It is a short book that can be read in a few days. The sixth graders will read it when school starts. It is called Any Small Goodness by Tony Johnston. It is filled with life lessons and well-developed characters to emulate. (Look up "emulate" if you don't know what it means. I love that word!) I can't wait to share that book with you. I am sorry that the computer won't allow me to underline or put the titles of the books in italics? Is this bothering anyone else?

I finished a book last week that I know many of you will love. You will especially love it if you are a writer. You will especially love it if you have had challenges in your life. You will especially love it if you are an aspiring poet. (Look up "aspiring" if you don't know what it means.) It is an incredible book by Pam Munoz Ryan. I was going to tell you what it is about but Nora just told me that she loved it BECAUSE she didn't know what it was really about until the end. I will say that it is historical fiction about a boy. I don't normally like historical fiction, but I really liked this one. The book is called The Dreamer. Don't you want to read it just because of the title?

I reread another one of my favorite books: The Van Gogh Cafe by Cynthia Rylant. Does the name Cynthia Rylant sound familiar? I bet that every one of you have read something by Cynthia Rylant. If I remember correctly, Cynthia Rylant was a favorite author of many of you in third grade. Google Cynthia Rylant, go to the official publisher's page, and look at Cynthia Rylant's books (found on the lefthand side). Scroll to about page three until you see the books that I know you will recognize. ANYWAY, the fifth graders are going to read The VanGogh Cafe the first week of school. It is a mystical book filled with hope and care. Again, another book with well-developed characters to emulate.

Mr. Looney always reads many interesting books that usually I haven't heard of. I just noticed a book with a creative cover laying on his bedside table. The author looked familiar so I picked it up. It is a book by Jack Gantos. Where have I heard this name before? Jack Gantos is the Newbery Winner author of Dead End in Norvelt. I haven't read it yet, but it is sitting on Nora and Maeve's book shelf. I wonder why Mr. Looney is reading a book by Jack Gantos. He loves to read biographies and this book is a biography. I wonder if Mr. Looney knew that we have one of Gantos's books. I might have to read his biography.

The fourth book in the series just came out after many years since the third book was written. I am reading it now with my daughters and are thoroughly enjoying it. This book is is both futuristic and modern. I think this book takes place in a real country, but I'm not sure which one it is. In the book it talks a little bit about Los Angeles so this is why i think it may be a little modern. The trial is a big test that decides your future. If you pass your trial you would get a good job like a soldier, professor, etc. but if you were to fail your trial you would be taken to a "labor camp" and never to be heard from again. everybody was supposed to take the trial, but not everybody was meant to pass... ecspecially not a perfect score if your from a poor sector. your fate lies in the hands of the test graders, but are they fair and true.

I think I will have to read that book. Is it a comedy? Doesn't Dan Gutman usually write comedies? Have you read any of his other books?

The Return of Sherlock Holmes is cool. Its a ton of short stories. I just finished one last night. Holmes had to save a guy that was poisoned. The Return of Sherlock Holmes Starts after his battle with Moriarty. He had to kill James Moriarty.

Holmes is highly intelligent. Is that how you spell intelligent? Anyway, Holmes is smart. Sherlock is also a good fighter. Half the time he knows what might happen. Like in the movies.

I just finished the book " The Missing Girl" by Norma Fox Mazer. This book is very mysterious and suspensful it made me think about what events would come next. This book is about five herbert sisters who walk to school everyday minding their own buisness in their own little world. A man watches them out of his window every morning, nobody knows who he is or where he lives because he lives in the middle of no where where there is just trees. This books is told from many characters the sisters and the mom.

I just started this new book while i was in ISS. the book is called Report To The Princeables Office. it takes place at plumstead middle school.the first main character is Sunny Wyler she is determined to get herself suspended. Then there is Eddie Mott,he has a three point plan for fitting in,but he still gets beat up in the morning on the bus.Next there is Salem Brownmiller who is way to pleased to witness Eddies troubles-as a future writer, shes drawn to drama of all types.Last of all there is Pickles Johnson who is just ,well pickes. Those four sixth graders like some of us only have one thing in common ,there all about to report to the principles office. RIght now i am on chapter 11 and i will probaly finish it tonight . I would recomend this book to all of the trouble makers in the sixth grade.

I agree with you, Tyler. I, too, detest watching movies that were made from novels that I love. There have only been a few movies that I enjoyed watching after I had read the book: Because of Winn Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo, and The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. I have just recently watched The Life of Pi. My mother-in-law has convinced me to try to read The Life of Pi again. I gave up because the book was too slow for me. I think I will give it another try.
