Sixth Grade Grammar
Throughout the school year, throughout each writing and social studies lesson, students will be instructed in the proper use of grammar. We will mainly use the selected texts that we are utilizing in our writing classes and social studies classes as models of what to do and what not to do pertaining to grammar rules and usage. We will also use videos and other media to study grammar. We will also utilize individual students’ writing samples as examples and as practice of proper grammar use. Students will work as a whole class group, in pairs, and independently.
Several New York State Next Generation English Language Arts Learning Standards are essential in order to be able to accomplish our goals. These standards will be practiced while utilizing the selected articles, videos, and photos in order to master these skills.
New York State Next Generation Standards:
Anchor Standard L1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of academic English grammar
and usage when writing or speaking*.
